2025 First 1000 Days Florida

It is summer in Tallahassee! For our statewide network, that means regrouping with a renewed sense of purpose!

Some of what we are thinking about:

Centering Maternal Mental Health Across the First 1000 Days, frames and highlights the urgent need to elevate maternal emotional wellbeing as foundational to family and child health.

Florida’s children from birth to age five are the largest age group of maltreated children, with adverse childhood experiences that impact their life trajectory, including about 50% of children who are not ready for kindergarten. Fortunately, the early years offer the best opportunity to hard-wire positive experiences and resiliency.

How our vision is aligned with a larger collective voice:

Florida’s First 1000 Days Coalition was formed in 2014 to convene various stakeholders (e.g., hospitals, early intervention, early education, home visiting, pediatrics, child welfare, etc.) around the pivotal early childhood development period. The Coalition aims to align Florida efforts under “one big tent” for collective impact toward strengthening policies and evidence-based services in four key policy areas: Expanding quality childcare, promoting healthy development and maternal mental health, improving outcomes for young children in child welfare, and supporting economic policies to promote stable, self-sufficient families.

The First 1000 Days priority areas align in a crosswalk with the Healthy People 2030 framework objectives, the State Health Improvement Plan, and the conditions to support the complex systems caring for the most vulnerable Floridians.
